New Academic Year, New LMS!

2017-18 is the first academic year in which Canvas is Clemson’s sole learning management system. The resources below will help you make the most of Canvas as you begin the new year.

Start-of-Semester Checklist

This handy Start-of-Semester Checklist walks you through the process of setting up your courses, including adding/organizing course materials, combining sections into a single course shell, customizing your course navigation, setting your course homepage, publishing course content, and publishing your course.

Canvas Faculty Handout

All faculty members will receive a printed guide to Canvas that explains how to perform many of the most common teaching-related tasks, including adding content, creating assignments and quizzes, and assessing student work. You’ll receive this guide via your campus mailbox. In the meantime, you may want to explore Canvas’s instructor guides, which include screenshots and step-by-step instructions.

Canvas Quick Guide for Students

Clemson Online has prepared a Quick Guide to Canvas for Students. Students will see this guide via a targeted announcement in Canvas during the first week of the semester, but if you’re concerned about students’ ability to navigate the new learning management system, feel free to distribute it in your classes.

Training Opportunities

Clemson Online’s Canvas experts are offering training sessions and consultations throughout the semester. We recommend that you attend an introductory session or complete our self-paced Getting Started with Canvas course before scheduling a one-on-one consultation.

If you’re already comfortable working in Canvas and would like to improve the look of your courses, consider enrolling in our self-paced Visual Design in Canvas course.

Retrieving Content from Blackboard

Blackboard access officially ended on June 30. As part of the LMS transition process, Clemson Online and Instructure performed a bulk migration of active Blackboard courses from Fall 2015, Spring 2016, and Summer 2016 to Canvas. If you would like to retrieve content from a Blackboard course that was used prior to Fall 2015 or that was updated after Summer 2016, you will need to submit a ticket to ITHELP@clemson.edu with the name of the course and the semester the course was taught.
