Zoom has recently undergone an update which rearranges and enhances some of its features with a new color scheme and icons. Most notably, the toolbar has been rearranged by default, and you can customize what you want to appear there.
Classroom computers and those managed by CCIT will update before the summer term begins. If your personal computer is set to automatically update Zoom, you may see these changes right away. The first time you open the new version, it will show you What’s New!
Here is what you should know about the new and improved Zoom:
- All the security settings are now located in “Host Tools” button.
- Recording is initially accessed by clicking on “More” and then record, but you can and SHOULD relocate it out onto the main bar to keep it there for future meetings. Just drag and drop icons where you want them in the toolbar.
- Under the “View” options on the top right you can now select “Multi-speaker” view which is the new enhanced version of the gallery view. It allows you to keep the spotlight on the main speakers while still seeing other participants.
- All Screens Mode is available in meetings for proctoring. You can request all participants share their screen and present the host with a side-beside view of the shared desktops. You will be able to see both the participant and what they are working on. An example of when you could use this feature is when giving an in-class quiz or assignment. Currently this feature will need to be enabled first in the Clemson Zoom web portal. Navigate to settings > Meeting > In Meeting (Basic) or use the search feature to locate “All screens mode”.
Be on the lookout for updated training opportunities and documentation from Clemson Online in the next few weeks. If you have questions on how to work with the new version, please contact CCIT:
