Clemson Students Place in ASME Competition

This past week, a Clemson mechanical engineering student design team placed second in the 2018 ASME Student Manufacturing Design Competition (SMDC). Their work entails the design of an automated ultrasonic soldering system and is sponsored by the Harris corporation. Student researchers Jennifer Shaffer Brown, Ken Maassen, and Peter Tilton represented the design team, which is comprised of 19 students who contributed to the project over multiple semesters. The SMDC was held during the ASME 2018 International Manufacturing Science and Education and NAMRC46 conference at Texas A&M University with the purpose of seeking out creative and innovative student design projects that highlight interesting applications of manufacturing engineering.
