ICYMI – Canvas Basics

In case you missed it, our Learning Technology Specialists recently delivered a Quick Hits Workshop on the fundamentals of Canvas. Canvas is the teaching platform affiliated with Clemson University that easily allows you to incorporate the best pedagogical approach, integrate outside tools, boost efficiency, and so much more. Understanding Canvas Basics are essential to online teaching at Clemson.

Once you have entered the Clemson affiliated Canvas, you will come to you Dashboard. The Dashboard has a navigation ribbon on the left hand side where you will find all the necessary buttons. Your dashboard contains the unpublished and published courses you have been added to or have created. On the right side of the dashboard you will see announcements and a “To-Do” list. You can use the Dashboard to open courses, the inbox, a course coded calendar, Kaltura, and more. The Dashboard is the beginning of understanding where you can find every other tool within the platform.

Canvas allows you to quickly create assignments, quizzes, establish student groups, upload files or videos. You can also integrate other tools or apps affiliated with Clemson such as Kaltura, Lockdown Browser, and Turnitin.

Although Canvas has many attributes, it is user friendly with extensive resources on the help page as well as from Clemson Online. Don’t hesitate to reach out to a Clemson Online team member as you familiarize yourself with the vast abilities of Canvas.
