Welcome New Instructors

Welcome to Clemson! Join us for the New Instructor Conference on Monday, August 14 and informal Zoom drop-ins the following week.

Clemson Online is a support unit that assists all instructors – at every level, from GAs to tenured professors – who utilize Canvas, Zoom, and other online instructional tools in any teaching modality.

Monday, August 14, 12:30 – 4:30 PM, Watt Center and via Zoom

For a complete schedule, room details, and to register for the New Instructor Conference, go to our conference webpage. The conference will provide an overview of teaching with Canvas and Zoom, facilitated breakout sessions on course design and tools for teaching, and one-on-one assistance. Attend in person or through Zoom; snacks will be provided for in-person attendees. For those that attend in-person, you will also receive a Clemson Online tote and the opportunity to win door prizes!

Breakout sessions include:

  • Setting Up Your Course for Success
  • Creating Online Engagement with your Students
  • Using the Canvas Gradebook and Turnitin
  • Create an Accessible Online Course
  • Kaltura Video Service
  • Canvas – Create Assignments, Discussions, and Quizzes
  • Creating a Welcoming Canvas Course
  • Organizing Your Course in Canvas

Alongside each breakout session, we will also be available for individual questions in our open workshop space. The Zoom link will be emailed to all who register and will be available on the conference page.

Upcoming Events

Make Your Canvas Site Beautiful

Wednesday, August 9, 1:30 – 2:15PM

Learn all about clear, effective visual design options for your Canvas pages with the new Design Module in the Faculty Resource Center. You can find pre-made graphics such as icons, course banners, buttons, and more with customization options available. This workshop will provide a walkthrough of the entire Design Module and instructions for downloading, customizing, and placing assets in your courses.

Facilitated by Rachel Greene, Digital Learning Designer.

Participation Confirmation in Online Courses

Thursday, August 10, 1:30 – 2:15PM

Join us for an Instructor Development Workshop focused on Participation Confirmation, a new federally required process beginning Fall 2023. The workshop will cover the process of confirming student participation via iROAR and provide guidance on the types of interactions allowed for asynchronous online courses.

Facilitators: 

  • Lori Kinley, Ph.D., Associate Director of Online Development for Clemson Online 
  • Amber Padgett, Director of Communications for Enrollment Management.

We have a robust Summer lineup of topics and live training formats to support your use of Canvas and other e-learning tools. Topics cover demonstrations of using Kaltura, presentations on inclusive practices for online education, and workshops to get your Canvas site ready to teach!

All of our live training is recorded. Registrants will automatically receive a link to that day’s video after it has been processed.
