Improving Your Online Course with Quality Matters

Interested in learning more about research-based best practices for online instruction to prepare for the summer term and beyond? Interested in learning more about the Quality Matters Rubric?

Beginning March 6, Clemson Online invites all instructors who have previously taught online to participate in the Quality Matters workshop “Improving Your Online Course,” facilitated by Lori Kinley, Associate Director of Online Development, or Sharyn Emery, Digital Learning Manager. The workshop will be especially helpful for those who began teaching online during the pandemic and would like to improve their course design with the help of some friendly feedback.

The two-week, asynchronous workshop guides participants through evaluating their own course and developing a plan for improvement using the Essential Specific Review Standards of the Quality Matters Rubric. The workshop will run multiple times throughout the spring and beginning of summer terms. All participants will have the opportunity to discuss their course one-on-one with a Clemson Online staff member.  Upon completing the workshop, participants will receive a certificate from Quality Matters and a digital badge from Clemson Online that can be applied to their online course.

For instructors who have taught the same course online several times and feel further along in their design experience, a Quality Matters Essentials Course Review allows them to work with one of Clemson Online’s certified reviewers to apply the rubric to their course. Once the course meets all the essential standards, Clemson Online will issue it a Quality Matters Essential badge.

For those who will be teaching online for the first time, Clemson Online is offering an Online Course Bootcamp. In a series of four sessions, instructors can learn the basics of online course design and build components of an online course that all work together to enhance the learning experience.

For the first time this spring, all these trainings can be listed on annual reviews in the Faculty Success system for applicable participants.

Learn more and register for any of these options at the Expanded Quality Matters Offerings page.
