Kaltura
March 28, 2022
Clemson Online and CCIT are excited to announce the arrival of Clemson University’s new video hosting software: Kaltura.
Kaltura is a video creating, editing, and hosting platform that allows you to easily insert videos into Canvas either from a library or record on the spot.
The New Features of Kaltura: Kaltura vs. Ensemble
Kaltura does everything that Ensemble can do and more!
- Built-in captioning and recording capabilities
- Ensemble – No recording capabilities and no auto-captioning assistance.
- Kaltura – recording, including screen capture, and storing software all-in-one with auto-captioning.
- Advanced video editing
- Ensemble – No video editing capabilities. Merely functions as storage, thus requiring use of another program to edit videos.
- Kaltura – Comes with basic and advanced video editing features, keeping your video needs in one package.
- Smarter search features
- Ensemble – only search by the title of your video. Not great if you can’t quite recall what that video was called but you remember creating it a year ago.
- Kaltura – helps you find your videos by providing you with more search fields.
What about my videos in Ensemble?
Current active Ensemble videos will be migrated over with more details to come about the process and timeline.
How will I be prepared for this change over?
More information, future Clemson Online live training, documentation and a timeline for this change will be coming in the future. We recognize that the smallest of changes can have major consequences, so a significant change such as this is being prepared for with care and to ensure as smooth of a transition as possible.
