Meghan Barkley, 4-H Youth Development Agent

This year’s 2025 Beaufort County 4-H Cooking Camp empowered youth to feel confident in the kitchen and proud to cook for their families at home. We made delicious recipes and lots of memories! Local youth from the county participated in the week-long camp, where they prepared more than ten full meals and several delicious snacks. Campers worked in small teams to learn key kitchen skills such as food preparation, knife safety, and proper cooking techniques. Dishes included smoothies, crepes, beef stroganoff, teriyaki stir fry, omelets, spaghetti & meatballs, and even homemade hot fudge for ice cream sundaes. A special thank you to our Counselor in Training, Nathan, who spent his birthday with us during camp! At the end of the week, each camper and their family received a digital cookbook, allowing them to recreate the recipes at home and continue building their culinary confidence. It was another fantastic year of learning, teamwork, and fun in the kitchen—and we’re already looking forward to Cooking Camp 2026!
