South Carolina Ag Book of the Month Program

Orangeburg and Calhoun County 4-H presents agriculture books and activities to kindergarten students at St. Matthews Elementary. The Book of the Month program is a literacy outreach program sponsored by Ag in the Classroom and the SC Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee. Monthly books were purchased and a lesson plan, including classroom activities for youth on various agriculture topics.

During the 2020-21 school year, Mrs. Mason presented six books using a virtual platform, reaching thirty-three students. During the current school year, class presentations have been in-person. Three kindergarten classes have participated, with fifty-eight students. Students have learned the cycle of a sunflower, types of conifers, pumpkin seeds, and parts of an apple.
