Beaufort Junior Leadership Awarded $1,500.00 Grant

Meghan Barkley, 4-H Youth Development Agent

Beaufort Junior Leadership received a $1,500 grant from the Foundation for Leadership Education (FLE).  FLE supports leadership education and promotes leadership awareness.  The program was recognized during the Lowcountry Lifetime Achievement Awards program held in January 2024.

Beaufort Junior Leadership is a program offered by Clemson University Cooperative Extension that is dedicated to developing high school Sophomores and Juniors into young leaders. This program provides training in the areas of personal and leadership development, networking, communication, financial management, and civic engagement. Youth participate in hands-on projects that develop essential life skills along with learning by example from local community members. Students receive special permission from their schools to meet once a month during the school day to focus on a variety of leadership projects using a learn-by-doing approach to help them gain the knowledge and skills to be responsible, productive and contributing members of our community.

This grant award will help BJL be able to expand the program and continue providing leadership opportunities for high school youth in Beaufort County.  More information about FLE may be found here (https://lowcountryleaders.com/what-we-do)
