Colleton 4-H Club Visits Local Farm to Learn About Cotton Production

Dawn Stuckey, 4-H Youth Development Agent – Colleton and Hampton Counties

4-H visited and shared their talents in December. Club members were invited to visit Mr. Aaron Crosby’s farm for the December club meeting to learn about cotton and watch it being picked. For several members, this was their first experience with this kind of agricultural process. Members watched the cotton picker work and offload the bolls into the module builder. It was a dusty but fun process. After the picker cleared a few rows, members could walk into the field to see the plants up close. One of the best teaching experiences was for the youth to pull apart the cotton boll and find the seed inside.
