Dawn Stuckey, 4-H Youth Development Agent – Colleton and Hampton County

Fall is Here!
We have just completed the first of the three fairs for our area, the Orangeburg County Fair. With the arrival of Hurricane Helene, whether we would be able to hold the fair or not was in question. Like the show, the fair must go on! Youth from our area competed in poster contests, livestock shows, and seed art. The Orangeburg Fair increased premiums for all livestock shows and added two new opportunities for 4-H members. The first was the Farm Bureau Grand Champion Award. The Senior 4-H Showman who scored the highest in showmanship, record book interviews, and knowledge test earned $100 to $550 depending on species. The second was the President’s Award for the showman who demonstrated the best sportsmanship and competitive spirit. In addition to the prizes, we introduced the Savannah Valley 4-H Dairy Goat Show this year.
