Catching up with the Clover! Colleton County 4-H

Dawn Stuckey, Colleton/Hampton 4-H Agent

Colleton County 4-H Clubs are busy planning fundraisers and community service projects. This year the Colleton 4-H Club has decided to sponsor a kennel at the Colleton Animal Shelter and will be working to raise the funds to do so. Visit the club’s bake sale on Feb. 25 at Tractor Supply in Walterboro to support our project.

Colleton 4H
During the Club’s December meeting, Colleton Fire and Rescue officers K.C. and Roger gave us a lesson on kitchen safety.

Palmetto Pony 4-H Club and Blue Ribbon Riders 4-H Club have been meeting and planning events for members, including participating in the State 4-H Horse show held later this year! We are excited to have them back offering programs to our youth. Another 4-H Club has been started at Colleton Middle School by the school’s staff. The club will utilize the school gardens for projects and activities. Without volunteers like these, clubs and activities could not be as plentiful in Colleton County. Thank you to Maddie Ingalls, Robin Barr, and Elaine Inabinett for sponsoring clubs and recruiting volunteers to work with our youth.

In addition to our clubs, 4-H offers a variety of school enrichment and after-school programs. Cottageville Elementary and Black Street Early Learning Center have completed our Healthy Lifestyles program as part of its Boeing/MUSC Wellness program. Every student om both schools learned something new about eating healthily and exercising. This is the 6th year that Cottageville Elementary School has participated in the 4-H Healthy Lifestyles program.

School Enrichment
Students at Black Street Early Learning Center enjoyed lessons on eating healthy.
