Zachary Snipes, Assistant Program Team Leader-Horticulture, Area Horticulture Agent
Zach Snipes, along with other agents from Clemson University’s Food Crop Horticulture Team, has been conducting on-farm demonstrations showcasing in-line fumigation techniques. The emergence of new pests, limited crop rotation options, and the buildup of diseases have led growers to consider fumigation as an essential addition to their toolbox for disease, insect, and weed management. While effective, fumigation can be costly and poses potential safety risks to applicators.

In-line fumigation is a relatively new practice for growers in South Carolina and offers a significantly safer application system. Over the past two years, the team of agents has conducted on-farm demonstrations to understand the practical aspects of this technique better. In recent months, agents have traveled throughout the southeastern United States to present their findings and demonstrate this safer alternative to growers and industry professionals.
