Patti Chapman, Nutrition Educator – Beaufort County
Beaufort County Nutrition Educator, Patti Chapman, has been teaching the “Choose Health: Food, Fun, and Fitness” program to eight wonderful groups of fourth and fifth graders. During the lesson pictured below, students learned the importance of eating whole grains and made the “Veggie Pick-Pockets” recipe. Students enjoyed filling their whole-wheat pita pockets with vegetables and low-fat dressing; then, tasting their healthy snacks. The class in these photos was also chosen by Beaufort County School District’s “Media Production Coordinator,” to be featured in a video that was posted across social media outlets both school-wide and district-wide. The video included interviews with Ms. Chapman, the school’s P.E. teacher Ms. Heid, and a few of the students who are currently participating in the program. It was a great way to share with parents and families the valuable information, fun activities, and yummy recipes that their children are learning about through the “Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program” (EFNEP) classes.
