Clarendon County 4-H has had a great summer! We held a summer camp the week of June 11th that focused on 4-H topics. The students learned about agriculture and animals, healthy food choices, advancements in technology and design, and natural resources.
We had an excellent presentation from our 4-H student, Caleb, on pollinators! Several of our county’s students are participating in the 4-H Pollinator Ambassador’s course with Caleb. Do you know how important pollinators are to the ecosystem and humans? Bees are not the only pollinators; they do much more than making honey.
The students also enjoyed a presentation and craft on biomimicry from a staff member at the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA)! Have you heard of biomimicry? Biomimicry is the imitation of the living. It models structures, materials, and systems on biological processes and beings. Our last day of camp doubled as a show-and-tell animal day. A few campers and I brought a few of our animal friends to visit. We had two corn snakes, a rabbit, a chicken, and a few baby raccoons! We were lucky enough that a couple of 4-H students had a few coyote teeth and a deer skull to show the group.
