Ashley L. Walker has been with Clemson Extension for a year now. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and an alumna of South Carolina State University. There, Ashley received her bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Science and minored in Biology.
During her matriculation, she worked closely with the 1890’s Research Extension to research the issues of food insecurity and presented her research at the HBCU Climate Change Conference in partnership with the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice in New Orleans, Louisiana. They also established multiple produce gardens on campus and in the Orangeburg community to combat being a food desert.
To further her knowledge, Ashley participated in a Sustainable Agriculture program at Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College. Her passion is centered on community sustainability and herbal medicine, which is the study of botany and the use of medicinal plants to treat and prevent disease and promote health.
Ashley wholeheartedly believes in the concept that food is our medicine, and we need to become more health-conscious to live an optimal and quality way of life. As an EFNEP Nutrition Educator, she gets to spread education and awareness about adopting healthy behaviors to make a significant difference in the lives of everyone she works with. Ashley strives to have a very influential impact here in the community and is very happy to represent Clemson University.
