- Spring Clean-Up Items that can be fun and rewarding during the month of March include the following:
- Irrigation systems can now be turned on to perform annual audits before spring officially arrives. https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/watering-lawns/
- Timers must be inspected to ensure they have sprung forward by 1 hour for daylight savings.
- Controllers in the OFF position can be turned ON as ground temperatures warm up. Plants & turf begin taking up water to start actively growing.
- Check rain sensors to ensure they work correctly, controlling the system.
- Adjust spray coverage watering plants & turf. Also, please inspect for any leaks or breaks and repair them for the best plant health.
- Ornamental planting beds can add 2-3 inches of mulch to conserve water and prevent weed germination. https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/mulch/
- Plant & turf fertilization can be started as the threat of frost passes. https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/fertilizing-trees-shrubs/
- Home vegetable garden plantings for cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, pole beans & radishes should be in full swing and make a great excuse to get outside and enjoy the spring weather.
