On February 25, a Hay Production Meeting was held in Allendale County. This meeting was open to producers in hay production or producers looking to expand into hay production.
Dr. Mike Marshall opened the meeting by discussing pasture weeds and management. Dr. Marshall shared with producers some of the weeds most commonly found in pastures and gave some recommendations on managing those weeds. He was followed by Matt Fisher, who presented the market outlook for hay production. Dr. Liliane Silva presented on fertility and establishment. She gave several recommendations on increasing production and improving forage and soil quality. Kevin Royal spoke on using GIS Systems to improve production. Dr. Kendell Kirk did a walk through on how to use the web apps available on Clemson’s website. We wrapped up the meeting with Marion Barnes’ presentation on Farm Safety.
