Master Rain Gardener Field Day

By: Samantha Porzelt, Water Resource Agent

Every fall Clemson Extension provides technical training opportunities for residential and professional audiences through the Master Rain Gardener Hybrid Course. The course includes 5 online modules and an in-person field day where participants get to install a rain garden. The field day consists of site assessments, soil assessments, soil amendments, native plantings, rainwater harvesting, and maintenance techniques led by Clemson Extension agents and specialists. This year’s field day took place in partnership with the Town of Mount Pleasant at the Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park. An additional course for the Sustainability Institute staff and AmeriCorps Members included a rain garden installation at Pinckney Park in partnership with the Town of James Island. After completing the online material and in-person field day, participants receive a Master Rain Gardener certificate. Many of our participants now offer rain gardens as part of their services for residential properties. If you would like to receive a list of residential rain garden installers, please contact Samantha Porzelt at sporzel@clemson.edu For more information on Clemson Extension’s Master Rain Gardener course, please visit: https://www.clemson.edu/extension/raingarden/mrg/index.html
