SC Master Gardener Class 2024

Glen Payne, Urban Horticulture Agent

This years SC Master Gardener class was off to a roaring start back in August with a full class of 25 prospective new members. Students have been diligently studying core topics covering botany, plant pathology, IPM strategies, soils, & entomology to name just a few of the 20 chapters covered. This year’s course has brought in guest presenters from Clemson Extension that work throughout the state. Presenters have covered subjects in person by social media using Zoom, & online recorded modules with quizzes assigned weekly to reinforce learning. There was a wonderful fun filled field trip to the Georgia Southern Arboretum that hosted the entire class for a day of touring their educational demonstration gardens, seed collecting and getting everyone outside. Now, students are back in the classroom coming to the end of the curriculum where they will begin preparation for the final exam. Moving one step closer to completing the curriculum of becoming Certified SC Master Gardeners in Beaufort, Jasper, & Colleton counties.
