Youth Compete in Market Hog Show at Orangeburg County Fair

Thirteen 4-H members showed nineteen hogs at the Orangeburg County Youth Market Hog Show held on Friday, October 7, during the Orangeburg County Fair. Six hundred and thirty dollars in premiums, along with rosettes and ribbons, were awarded to participants. The overall Senior Winner is Alayna Weilnau of Bamberg County, and the Overall Junior Winner is Lawson Weilnau of Bamberg County. Overall Winners are selected based on showmanship results and project book interview scores.

Grand Champion Showman is Paige Ulmer of Colleton County. Grand Champion Market Hog belongs to Jules Hurst of Bamberg County, and Reserve Grand Champion Hog belongs to Garrett Harwell of Orangeburg County. Senior Showmanship placings are 2nd Garrett Harwell and 3rd Wilson Oxner. Junior Showmanship placings are 2nd Hampton Jowers, 3rd Lawson Weilnau, 4th Rob Hurst and, 5th Savannah Wiggins, 6th Reace Hutto. Cloverbud showmanship class awards all participation ribbons: Lacy Wiggins, Brody Wiggins, Millie Harwell, and Jules Hurst.

Project book interviews are based on a record book and questions from a judge about the 4-H’ers knowledge of the project. Cloverbud participants are Lacy Wiggins, Brody Wiggins, Millie Harwell, and Jules Hurst. Junior Project Books are Blue ribbon Lawson Weilnau and Hampton Jowers, Red Ribbon Paige Ulmer, Reace Hutto, Savannah Wiggins, and Rob Hurst. Senior Project Books are Blue Ribbon Alayna Weilnau and Wilson Oxner, and Red Ribbon Garrett Harwell. Market Hog Lightweight Class placings are 1st Lawson Weilnau; 2nd Paige Ulmer; 3rd Hampton Jowers; 4th Rob Hurst; 5th Wilson Oxner. Market Hog Middleweight Class placings are 1st Alayna Weilnau; 2nd Garrett Harwell; 3rd Alayna Weilnau, 4th Garrett Harwell; 5th Brody Wiggins. Market Hog Heavyweight Class placings are 1st Jules Hurst; 2nd Garrett Harwell; 3rd Lawson Weilnau; 4th Millie Harwell; 5th Savannah Wiggins; 6th Lacy Wiggins.
